Just days ahead of the 23rd Commonwealth Games, set to take place from July 23 to August 2 in Glasgow, Scotland, the Mauritius Olympic Committee (MOC) brought together, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at its headquarters in Trianon, the heads of the six disciplines involved, the medical team, Chef de Mission Fayzal Bundhun, Deputy Chef de Mission Josian Valère, MOC Secretary-General Aarti Desscann, the representative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports — Director of Sports Indiressen Desscann — as well as MOC executive members.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review the key organisational and logistical aspects ahead of the phased departure of the Mauritian delegation for the Commonwealth Games.
In his opening address, MOC President Richard Papie underlined the importance of these Games and stressed the spirit of unity that should guide the whole delegation. He called on all members of Team Mauritius to work closely together to represent the Republic of Mauritius with dignity.
Chef de Mission Fayzal Bundhun presented the arrangements for the stay in Scotland. The disciplines will be split across three zones, with hotels located close to the competition venues. He also emphasised the importance of respecting the chain of communication, with athletes encouraged to approach their coach or relevant official first should they need anything.
Departure and accommodation arrangements, as well as operating rules, were also reviewed. A space will be reserved for Team Mauritius meetings at the Novotel. Participants were also briefed on zero-tolerance and safeguarding policies.
Finally, the medical team addressed the anti-doping rules in force. Athletes were asked to declare any medical treatment before departure and to remain vigilant regarding the use of certain medications, energy drinks and dietary supplements that could pose a risk.
On behalf of the MOC, Richard Papie wished every success to the athletes and officials who will represent the Republic of Mauritius at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
