First Edition of the Mauritius Olympic Committee Excellence Award

The Mauritius Olympic Committee (MOC) officially presented this Thursday the Mauritian delegation that will participate in the 4th African Youth Games, scheduled from 10 to 20 December 2025 in Angola.
The delegation will comprise 66 members, including 46 athletes, 15 coaches, and 5 officials (mission staff and medical team).
Mauritius will be represented in 11 disciplines: athletics, badminton, beach volleyball, tennis, table tennis, boxing, cycling, fencing, judo, swimming, and weightlifting.
This edition will take place in a special context, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Angola’s independence. More than 54 African nations are expected to participate, bringing together the continent’s top young athletes aged 14 to 16 across 33 disciplines, hosted in several cities including Luanda, Benguela, and Bengo.
The African Youth Games aim to:
- Promote sport among youth
- Identify and prepare emerging talent across the continent
- Encourage cultural integration
- Serve as a qualifying event for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games
Leadership and Logistics
The delegation will be led by Mr. Neerunjun Sharma Nundah, Chef de Mission, assisted by Mr. Soureindra Seebaluck, Deputy Chef de Mission.
The medical team will include:
- Dr. Youven Naiken Gopalla (Team Doctor)
- Mr. Abhishek Kaunhye (Physiotherapist)
The Mauritian contingent will travel in two groups, with departures scheduled for 8 and 9 December 2025 to Luanda.

Recent Events: Team Building & Official Presentation
Team Building Session – Successfully Conducted
As part of the delegation’s preparation, the MOC organised a Team Building and Awareness Session on Saturday 29 November 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at its headquarters in Trianon.
The session focused on:
- Team cohesion
- Athlete safeguarding
- Anti-doping awareness
- Olympic values
The objective was to ensure a safe, fair, and respectful sporting environment.
Official Presentation of Athletes – Côte d’Or, 4 December 2025
The official presentation of the Mauritian delegation and the unveiling of the official outfits for the 2025 African Youth Games took place this afternoon at Côte d’Or, in the presence of:
- Mr. Richard Papie, President of the Mauritius Olympic Committee
- Members of the MOC Executive Committee
- Mr. Deven Nagalingum, Minister of Youth and Sports
- Mrs. Karen Foo Kune-Bacha, Junior Minister
- Presidents of National Federations
- Athletes and coaches
During the ceremony, the team captains and flag bearers were also announced:
- Men’s Team Captain: Jack Donovan Madanamoothooo (Weightlifting)
- Women’s Team Captain: Elsa How Hong (Badminton)
- Flag Bearers: Esaie Emmanuel Cheri (Boxing) & Jahnelle Kyara Shanney Frappier (Judo)
